Good friends are hard to come by.
Nice people are everywhere around you. Believe me, I am the first to appreciate a random act of kindness or a smile from a stranger. But wonderful friends are different. Wonderful friends are honest, gracious, kind, loyal–they pick you up when you are feeling down and you do the same for them. Today, I was surrounded by wonderful friends. Today, and every day, I am grateful for them.
One of my greatest friends from freshman year, Sabrina, invited a group to dinner to celebrate her 21st birthday tonight. It was absolutely so much fun. We laughed, we ate, we exchanged compliments, jokes, and banter from across the L-shaped table, and we all laughed in awe and unison when the chef formed a volcano from onions (gotta love a classic teppanyaki restaurant). It felt like our first year of college all over again. There were new friends and old, and most of us lived together in the same dorm three years ago. It is moments like these when you can realize that yes, time flies, but it can also stand still. It is these stand-still moments that I am so thankful for.
Sabrina is one of those wonderful types of friends who always wants to do something fun, who is always down for a weekend brunch or a movie night, and who is always there for a pep talk before your midterm. I am so happy that I got to spend time with her tonight.
Oh, and tomorrow, we are going to Sushiya for buy-one-get-one-free sushi rolls. So what they say is true: the good times just get better.
Tell your friends you appreciate them today and every day. And if you are reading this, I appreciate you, too.
